Pour Over Guide

Pour-Over Brewing Basics

Pour-over brewing is all about finding the right method for you. Devices like the Kalita Wave, Hario V60, and Chemex are popular choices, each offering unique benefits. Flat-bottom brewers like the Kalita Wave are beginner-friendly and consistent, while conical brewers like the V60 and Chemex deliver more clarity in flavor. Prefer a fuller body? Try immersion brewers like the French Press or Clever Dripper.

Match your method to your coffee:

Rich, chocolatey coffees: Go for a heavier-bodied brew like the French Press.

Light, bright coffees: Highlight clarity with a V60 or Chemex.

Tips for a Great Brew

Water Temperature: Stick to 90–96°F for balanced extraction, but slightly cooler for dark or floral roasts.

Grind Fresh: Use a burr grinder for consistency. Ideally grind just before use.

Water-to-Coffee Ratio: Start at 1:17 (e.g., 30g coffee to 510g water) and adjust to taste.

The Bloom: Begin with a small pour to release gases from the grounds before continuing.

Precision tools, like a gooseneck kettle, help control your pour for better results. Aim for a brew time between 3–4 minutes, adjusting your grind as needed.

Experiment with methods, and let your coffee shine.
